Winsor & Newton Blending & Glazing Medium

This traditional pre-mixed medium combines linseed oil, dammar varnish, and mineral spirits. It extends artists' working time, enabling luminous, transparent layers. It also forms a flexible, durable film that enhances the artwork's longevity and appearance.

This Blending and Glazing Medium enhances the transparency and depth of oil paints, making it essential for artists seeking seamless colour blends and rich glazes. As you add more of this medium to your oil paint, you'll find it transforms the consistency, making the paint more fluid and allowing exquisite transparency. This versatility makes it perfect for a wide range of techniques, including blending, glazing, intricate stroke work, antiquing, and staining.

In addition to improving transparency, this medium dries to a durable, glossy finish, giving your artwork a polished look. Mediums play a crucial role in modifying the characteristics of oil colours. They can adjust drying time, increase glossiness, enhance flow, or introduce texture, depending on the binders used—such as linseed oil, alkyd resin, or modified oils for water-mixable options.

When using mediums, use them judiciously as additives to your colours, and avoid mixing multiple mediums in the same application for best results.
