Winsor & Newton Artists Picture Cleaner
Description
Description
Artists' Picture Cleaner is a cleaning solution expertly formulated with a blend of natural resin and an oil emulsion that includes ammonia, specifically designed for the meticulous care of varnished paintings. Its unique properties effectively dissolve oxidized linseed oil, allowing safe removal of surface dirt and degradation products that accumulate in aged varnish.
Before use, shake the bottle thoroughly, and keep shaking while applying the cleaner to ensure proper mixing. For application, use soft cotton wool pads to gently clean small sections of the painting, taking care not to apply excessive pressure. Once cleaning is complete, remove any residual cleaner with distilled turpentine to avoid leaving harmful substances behind.
The colour and consistency of each batch may vary slightly because of the natural ingredients. Additionally, if a painting shows signs of needing old varnish removal, consult a qualified picture restorer for such delicate work. Unvarnished paintings can also benefit from Artists' Picture Cleaner, but use extreme caution and stop immediately if any paint appears to lift from the canvas.
