Liquitex Professional Gloss Medium & Varnish

Liquitex Professional Gloss Medium & Varnish, now named Gloss Medium, increases acrylic paint flow, transparency and gloss. Use it for glazing, collage and image transfers, or as a permanent clear topcoat. It is not a removable protective varnish.

Compatible with all Liquitex acrylic paints and mediums, this all-purpose medium works wonders when mixed into your acrylic paint. It intensifies colour vibrancy, increases transparency and gloss, improves paint flow, and adds flexibility and adhesion to the paint film.

When applied, the medium appears translucent when wet, then becomes a clear, glossy finish once dry. It dries to a hard, flexible surface that is non-tacky and strongly resists dirt retention, helping keep your artwork clean.

One standout feature is its breathability; depending on the substrate beneath, it lets moisture pass through without compromising the piece's integrity. It also adapts well to temperature and humidity fluctuations, helping prevent cracking as the surface expands and contracts.

This medium suits a wide range of surfaces, both flexible and inflexible, including canvas, paper, wood, Plexiglas, and more. However, do not use it over oil-based paints. Overall, Gloss Medium offers artists an excellent way to enhance their work while ensuring longevity and durability.

How to use

• As a Medium: Mix directly into acrylic colours to reduce viscosity and increase volume without compromising paint stability. If needed, thin with up to 25% distilled water.
• As a Permanent Topcoat: Apply to a fully dry acrylic painting with a soft synthetic brush, using smooth, long strokes. Avoid over-brushing, as it can cause cloudiness or fogging.
• Drying & Curing: The product looks milky or translucent when wet but dries completely clear. Allow the coating to dry fully before handling or storing, following the product label.
