SpectraFix Degas Fixative 10 oz

SpectraFix Degas matte fixative, made from pure casein, works effectively on all dry media and supports. It dries rapidly without releasing toxic fumes or odours. This non-toxic fixative, composed of casein (a purified milk protein), water, and alcohol, follows an old recipe used by French Impressionist Edgar Degas. Milk casein protects and seals your artwork while preserving vivid colours, with no harmful emissions or smells. The spray dries quickly, enables deep layering, and offers good grip on media with thick layers. It is suitable for mixed media and dries to a durable, water-resistant surface.

The mixture of casein, water, and alcohol offers a safe, odourless way to protect your artwork, making it suitable for indoor environments, especially for those sensitive to chemicals. It can be applied to all types of paper, including sueded or gritted (excluding LaCarte), as well as Yupo, primed or unprimed canvas, wood panels, unglazed ceramic, stone, leather, glass, and more. While it can stiffen and safeguard fabric art, it should not be used on washable clothing.

SpectraFix Degas is compatible with Soft and Oil Pastel, Coloured Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal, as well as Watercolour, Gouache, Casein, Ink, Wax paints, or layered with other media in Encaustic. Use beneath Oil or Acrylic paints to prevent smudging of preliminary drawings. Not suitable as a final top coat over acrylic or oil paint.

• Under Oil & Acrylics: Prevents underdrawing smudges and bonds permanently with oil layers, similar to egg tempera, making it ideal for grisaille or underpainting.

Notes:

Not advised as a final top coat for acrylic or oil paints; however, it may be layered in multimedia projects and sealed later with acrylic or oil varnish.
