They dry via oxidation, providing flexibility over Galkyd mediums, which can become tacky. Too much medium may extend drying. Shipping is complimentary for orders exceeding $100 (in Canada), exclusive of taxes and coupon codes.

The purchase must be prepaid. Orders under $100 are subject to a shipping fee determined by Canada Post based on the location and destination.

Oversized orders may be ineligible for shipping, and shipping costs will be at the customer's expense. Orders placed outside local trading areas may require 3-5 business days for delivery. Exceptions may be applicable.

Gamblin Solvent-Free Mediums — A Healthier Studio, No Compromise

Gamblin’s Solvent-Free mediums are made from safflower oil and soy-based alkyd resin — no Gamsol, no petroleum distillates. They enhance flow, gloss, and colour saturation while keeping your studio air clean. Thin layers are touch-dry in 48–72 hours, faster than untreated oils.

Solvent-Free Fluid

Enhances flow and extends colours, similar to linseed or safflower oil but with a quicker drying time. Produces beautifully rounded brushmarks. The solvent-free alternative to Galkyd Lite.

Solvent-Free Gel

Denser texture, similar to tube paint. Boosts flow and colour saturation while preserving sharp, defined brushstrokes. A favourite among plein air painters — and TSA-friendly for travel.

Key Guidelines

Use sparingly — up to 25% by volume mixed with oil colours
Apply in thin layers (fat over lean principle)
Best suited for direct, alla prima painting
For underpainting or glazing, use Galkyd mediums instead
