Sennelier's 98 colours in the "L'Aquarelle" range include 36 granulating shades. Artists like these because they emphasize pigment grain, created with heavy pigments like cobalts, cadmiums, and earths. These tend to shrink and cluster in paper hollows as they dry, creating textured effects, especially on strongly grained paper. Each of these 36 colours is marked with a 'G' on the back of the tube.
Made in France using traditional methods, L’Aquarelle Sennelier watercolours have been crafted for over a century with the finest pigments and high-quality Kordofan Gum Arabic as a binder. This natural blend yields smooth, bright, and lively colours. The combination of Gum Arabic and honey ensures excellent application qualities, creating superb washes.
The pigments are then mixed and carefully ground after soaking in purified water for 24 hours to enhance their integration with the binder, resulting in a vibrant colour. Sennelier employs a traditional grinding process using slow-turning grindstones to prevent overheating and refines the paste through multiple stages to remove particles that could compromise wash quality.
This premium watercolour elevates your work with vivid, pure hues that blend effortlessly into nuanced shades. The smooth, intense colours are a joy to work with, and the honey additive helps the paint tubes and pans retain their colour over time, allowing you to capture light, shape, and colour with precision.
