RICHER, MORE VIBRANT COLOUR WITH HONEY!
Just as the world around you inspires you, so do the paints of M Graham. The watercolours are made with Northwest blackberry honey, reflecting the early artists' tradition of sourcing materials from nature for inspiration. This classic foundation ensures the watercolours are ready to use, providing smooth, consistent washes. Additionally, honey boosts the vibrancy and accuracy of the colours. With a diverse range of pigments—from delicate tints to deep, intense hues—M. Graham watercolours offer artists a range of colour options.
GUM ARABIC AND HONEY
As an essential ingredient in the binding medium, honey adds moisture, resulting in smooth, easily controlled applications, higher pigment concentrations, and reduced reliance on preservatives. Because of the honey medium, the watercolour resists hardening on the palette or in the tube. It dilutes easily, often after months of disuse.
PIGMENT COMPOSITION:
COMPOSITION AND PERMANENCE
The colour index name is issued by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists and the Society of Dyers and Colourists. It serves as a broad category rather than identifying a specific pigment. Although it provides artists with a general idea of a pigment's opacity, transparency, and lightfastness within a given colour space, it does not provide conclusive details. Pigment grades from different manufacturers vary in physical properties.
CHEMICAL NAME
The chemical name is a concise, generic term for the pigment's composition. When combined with the Colour Index name, it helps the artist gain a clearer understanding of the pigment's origin and inherent properties.
LIGHTFAST RATING / PERMANENCE
A pigment's colour permanence, when dispersed in a vehicle and exposed to conditions similar to those in typical fine arts environments, reflects its lightfastness. These ratings typically depend on the vehicle or medium and may vary across media; for example, a pigment suitable for oil painting may perform less well in watercolour. The ratings are based on a mix of historical data, accelerated testing, and information from pigment manufacturers, making them among the strictest standards used by modern artist colour producers.
OPACITY RATING
Transparency and Opacity. Each colour is assigned a level indicating its transparency or opacity. Keep these guidelines in mind, as thin-film applications may not be transparent but can still appear transparent to viewers.
