Description
Description
Professional Gray Gesso Medium is a pre-mixed, neutral gray acrylic ground that prepares your surface and adds instant colour.
Coloured Gesso — Establishes a coloured ground while offering all the benefits of traditional acrylic gesso. Some artists prefer to begin on a coloured ground, which gives the painting process a different feel. One coat is usually enough. Like traditional gesso, coloured gesso provides opaque surface coverage. This Coloured Gesso usually covers in one coat and is flexible, non-yellowing, and non-cracking. It provides good tooth and adhesion on a variety of surfaces. Use it on its own or dilute it with up to 25% water. Liquitex Coloured Gesso is hue-balanced and can be tinted with Liquitex Soft or Heavy Body Acrylics.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface preparations seal, prime, and add tooth (for colour adhesion) to surfaces such as canvas, wood, paper, and metal. This same preparation is used for both acrylic and oil paint. Professional gesso usually takes just 1 coat.
KEY FEATURES
- Contains a blend of pigments to give a matte neutral grey, opaque base which instantly eliminates your surface colour and allows you to build depth
- Primes surfaces and adds a high level of tooth for maximum colour adhesion and stability.
- Stiffens your canvases and creates the optimum absorbency for paint application, providing a professional standard, archival base to help maintain the longevity of your work
- Establishes a suitable surface for preliminary charcoal or pencil drawings
- Always use a quality artist's gesso if you want a lasting, archival base - a low-cost ground will flake and separate from your support, taking your work with it. Under the right conditions, a professional gesso like this will last generations.
HOW TO USE
- Use undiluted or thin with up to 25% water; when thinning more than 25%, use an equal mixture of water and Liquitex Matte Medium.
- Sand hard or shiny surfaces first, apply a thin coat with a wide, flat brush, and leave to dry for at least 24 hours before painting.
- Add acrylic colour for a custom tint - Soft Body Acrylic is the optimum consistency.
- To create a smoother base, sand the surface and reapply gesso
- If using as a base for oils, apply 2-4 coats and sand between applications
