Description
Cold Wax Medium opens up a whole genre of painting. Mix it with oil colours to create rich, layered surfaces with a beautiful matte finish — thick impasto peaks, carved marks, and translucent depths that echo the look of encaustic without the heat.
Made from natural beeswax pastilles, Gamsol, and a touch of alkyd resin. No heat required — it dries naturally as the Gamsol evaporates, leaving the wax to solidify.
What it does:
- Thickens oil paint and creates a matte, waxy finish
- Holds sharp impasto peaks and palette knife marks
- Adds translucency reminiscent of encaustic surfaces
- Works beautifully with brayers, stencils, and textural tools
Compatibility:
- Compatible with oil paints, alkyd/oil paints, and Gamsol
- Pairs with Galkyd Gel for added tackiness
- Galkyd Lite Gel softens the wax for smoother impasto peaks
- Adding Gamsol increases fluidity without affecting gloss
Available in a plastic tub and metal tin. Ideal for expressive, textural, and mixed-media oil painting.
