Demco Artist Series Dry Pure Pigment Assortment

Dry pigment for the artists who want to mix their own paint or pastel instead of using manufactured versions.

Dry pigments are essentially colours that have been reduced to its purest form and are devoid of all mediums or binders.

This gives the artist the opportunity to start from the beginning and add the colours to whatever medium they choose and to mix colours of their own creation.

Use colour chart for reference only. If exact colour matching is desired please use actual samples of the materials.

Create you own colours. Concentrated, light fast, water-dispersed pigments for use with any water-based paint and medium. Use with mediums to create your own custom colours or add to existing colours to increase intensity or to create a custom tint. Pure Pigments are highly concentrated. Add in sparing amounts and mix thoroughly.

For example:

  • Mixing with polyurethane will create a rich colour but will not change the colour of the pigment. It can then be used to paint and will produce a translucent rich colour.
  • Pigments can be mixed with any paint that you wanted to enrich the colour of or change the colour of. If you had a red paint and wished to create purple you could add a blue pigment.
  • Many mediums, including glazes, can have pigments added to them to change the colour of the medium but not the purpose.
  • Can mix pigment with melted wax for impasto painting or candle making wax.
  • Simple white glue can be used as a binder for a multitude of crafting ideas.
  • Egg Tempera is probably the most traditional form of paint making and refers to the technique whereby pigment is prepared for painting by mixing with egg yolk and distilled water. As the mixture dries, the water evaporates, leaving a thin, hard layer of colour that is durable but not very flexible.

Pigment is usually sold in a form that is already finely ground, and can be mixed straight into the emulsion. Some artists prefer to grind the pigment further, however, using a little distilled water to work the pigment into a creamy paste.

HEALTH & SAFETY: When using dry pigment, even if the pigment are known as non-toxic, always wear a proper mask with the correct filters fitted.
