Akua Liquid Pigment by Akua

Akua Liquid Pigments were originally developed for monotype printmaking, but can also be used for other techniques, such as Japanese woodcut and painting on paper. By adding drops of these concentrated pigments into Akua Intaglio Transparent Base, you can custom make intaglio or relief inks. Sold in 4 oz squeeze bottles with spill proof twist off cap.

Colours are made with lightfast pigments, pure gum binders and honey. No fillers or dryers are added, so colours dry with a luminous finish. Clean up is fast and easy with just water and a rag.

Akua Liquid Pigments are compatible with Akua Intaglio to create new colours or relief techniques such as multi-plate overlays. The Pigments print beautifully on dry paper because it stays wet on the palette. Prints can be made with the use of an etching press, or by hand pressure using a Pin Press, baren or spoon.

Use this colour chart as an approximation of the real colour. If exact colour matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

These exceptionally rich,non-toxic,water-based inks work great for all types of monotype techniques. The unique slow-dryingformula allows plenty of time to create an image on the plate.

Because Akua stays wet on the plate, there's no need to soak paper before printing. Clean, brilliant, lightfast colours are exceptionally strong yet transparent — no chalk, fillers, or polymers are added.

Use Akua modifers to adjust sheen, thickness, and transparency. Akua Liquid Pigment cleans up fast and easy with water. They can also be used for Japanese woodcut and drawing on paper. Inks come in4 oz (118 ml) containers.

Before beginning, shake all colours for one minute. Cleaning the plate with soap and water or cleanser before using will prevent Akua Liquid Pigment from beading up on the plate.

Identifying Pigments

Manufacturers are free to give their art supply colours whatever name they deem appropriate. Different manufacturers give different names to the same colour, even if the same pigments are used. Therefore, names may vary from one brand to another. Akua tries to use the pigments technical name for Akua Inks. For instance, the names Hansa Yellow, Phthalo Blue and Quinacridone Red refer to the specific pigment used in that ink. Some pigments may have several technical names. In that case, we try to select the most popular name.

Colours such as Olive Green, Turquoise Blue and Payne’s Gray usually contain a mixture of several pigments. When trying to identify pigments used in ink or paint, research the colour index name, not the name given by the manufacturer.
